Could NBA see sellout Finals crowds? And how big a TV ratings draw are the Knicks?


Usually on TV Friday we focus on, well, TV. Today, we’re going to take a quick look at the in-person aspect of the NBA’s business, which likely got a significant boost from Thursday’s new CDC guidance stating that vaccinated individuals can resume activities without a mask. You’ve probably noticed that lately, general restrictions have been lessening, allowing sports teams to accept more and more people at games. The Philadelphia 76ers are furthest ahead in this respect, already accepting half-capacity for the playoffs, with aims to accept full capacity at the Wells Fargo Center in the second week of June. After over a year of COVID-19 restrictions, it’s hard to fathom and yet seems plausible: If the Sixers make a deep playoff run, it could happen before a sellout crowd.
