With less than two minutes remaining in the Sun’s playoff-clinching victory over the Mercury last week, Alyssa Thomas tossed the ball up-court to DeWanna Bonner, who delivered it to the basket untouched. Following the easy basket, Bonner paused on the baseline below the hoop. Facing her current and former teammates on the court, Bonner yelled. In the seconds after, as Phoenix called a timeout, Bonner screamed again, hyped up before joining her teammates in the huddle.

The back-to-back Mercury games last week brought the past and present together for Bonner like no other part of the season had. The moment of pure joy was also a perfect indicator of how far the Sun have come, with Bonner and Thomas both critical pieces in the Sun’s postseason berth.
