It’s worth recognizing — no matter how different this endeavor may look or how challenging the upcoming season will be for the Orioles — that spring training is finally here.

Pitchers and catchers had their first workout Wednesday morning at Ed Smith Stadium. And afterward, Orioles manager Brandon Hyde had his first Zoom meeting with reporters, chiding everyone in the frigid mid-Atlantic with a weather report.

“It was a little misty here this morning,” Hyde teased. “It was kind of in the 70s and a little bit misty — so, really uncomfortable.”

Such is a ritual of February, the talk about how the weather in Florida is ready for baseball, even if no one else is quite prepared for spring.
