Commonwealth Games 2022, India vs New Zealand, Women’s Hockey Bronze Medal Match, Highlights: India beat New Zealand 2-1 in a shootout to win the bronze medal in women’s hockey at the ongoing Commonwealth Games on Sunday. India had taken the lead in the second quarter courtesy a goal from Salima Tete, but New Zealand made it 1-1 with a penalty stroke with just 17 seconds to go in the match, taking it into the shootout. After the first quarter, the scoreline remained 0-0 but Salima Tete opened the scoring in the 2nd quarter. It seemed like New Zealand equalised in the 3rd quarter but India decided for a referral and it paid of as the goal did not stand. Savita Punia and co had suffered a heartbreaking loss in the semi-finals against Australia. The match stirred a huge controversy after the “clock error”. But this time, India managed to come out on top in the shootout. This was India’s first medal in women’s hockey at the Commonwealth Games in 16 years.
