The central midfielder is said to have agreed to personal terms and completed his medical ahead of his impending move.

Scott, who can play in either an attacking or defensive midfield role becomes Newcastle‘s second summer signing.

New boss Steve Bruce has already overseen the club-record by of former Hoffenheim striker Joelinton.

Now Scott becomes the latest Chelsea star to leave the club, with Ethan Ampadu heading off to RB Leipzig on loan for the season.

NEW START

Scott – who has played for England, Ireland and USA at youth level – failed to make an appearance in the Premier League for the Blues.

After impressing in friendlies against Inter Milan and Arsenal pre-season two years ago, he was in the match-day squad three times to start the 2017-18 season under Antonio Conte.

Despite playing once – coming off the bench in the 4-0 FA Cup win over Hull in February 2018 – he was deemed surplus to requirements.

But he did have a successful loan stint at Dutch side Telstar last season, scoring twice in 14 league matches.

And that form clearly caught the eye of boyhood Newcastle fan Bruce, who has snapped him up for nothing.

While in Holland, Scott told local reporters about his game, saying: “I am an attacking midfielder, who likes to play football, you know?

“The lower you go in terms of level, the more the football changes. That is the same in England, the game is a lot more physical.

“At the moment we are going to play more and more football and that works to my advantage.”
