Charania: Examining Carmelo Anthony’s uncertain basketball future, which won’t include Team USA


After helping USA Basketball capture its third consecutive gold medal in the 2016 Olympics, Carmelo Anthony said he would be retiring from international play, doing so as the all-time leading scorer and rebounder for the U.S. It was a tremendous accomplishment for Anthony, who has been one of the sport’s greatest scorers and had his output translate into success in front of the eyes of the entire world.

Fast forward three years. Anthony has been trying to find his way back into the NBA after the Houston Rockets parted ways with him in November, and despite discussions with teams such as the Los Angeles Lakers, the 10-time All-Star remains unsigned.

So have things changed to the point Anthony and Team USA should reunite for one more go around in this summer’s FIBA World Cup?
