Championship round-up: Middlesbrough boost survival hopes

Championship round-up: Middlesbrough boost survival hopes with late victory over Reading as Millwall keep play-off hopes alive by beating Blackburn

  • Patrick Roberts’ 82nd minute strike earned Middlesbrough victory over Reading
  • Boro now move up to 17th in the table and five points clear of the drop zone
  • Millwall are up to seventh and just two points off sixth-placed Cardiff

Neil Warnock’s hopes of saving Middlesbrough from the drop were boosted after Patrick Roberts’ 82nd-minute strike clinched a crucial 2-1 win at Reading.

Liam Moore struck from close range following a corner to give Mark Bowen’s side the lead.

But on-loan Manchester City winger Roberts crossed for Ashley Fletcher to equalise towards the end of the first half before firing home the winner from 15 yards.

Millwall, marshalled by Jake Cooper, produced a defensive masterclass to move up to seventh with a 1-0 home win against Blackburn.

Mason Bennett, the midfielder on loan from Derby, struck the first-half winner to end Rovers’ chances of a playoff spot.

Luton remain in the relegation zone following a 1-1 home draw against Queens Park Rangers.

James Collins scored from the penalty spot in the first half after James Bree was brought down by Ryan Manning.
