Champion and 2018 Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Monomoy Girl may have missed out on a 2019 campaign, but the 4-year-old daughter of Tapizar is aiming for a comeback in 2020. According to horseracingnation.com, the filly has resumed training at Paul Sharp’s farm in Williston, Fla., and will return to trainer Brad Cox at the Fair Grounds in January.
Monomoy Girl missed the first half of the 2019 season after a colic episode, and was found to have pulled a muscle later in the season.
“She’s doing very well. She’s happy down here,” said bloodstock agent Liz Crow. “So far, no issues. She had pulled a hamstring. Dr. Wes Sutter been the one in charge of her recovery. He has looked at her multiple times and gave us the go-ahead to put her back in training.”
A potential early target for Monomoy Girl next year could be the G1 Apple Blossom at Oaklawn, Crow suggested.
