In the ITF women’s event in Tabarka, Tunisia, national junior champion Humera Shaik overcame 11 doublefaults to beat compatriot Jennifer Luikham 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 in the first round.
In a battle of wits that lasted two hours and 40 minutes, Humera won three games on the trot in the decider, from being down 4-5, breaking Jennifer’s serve twice.
In a similar tournament in South Africa, Ashmitha Easwaramurthi made the quarterfinals, while Zeel Desai bowed out after winning the first set love against Kristin Younes of Israel.
