Celtics waive Garrison Mathews, Theo Pinson as Jabari Parker, Bruno Fernando make final roster

The Celtics roster is (almost) set heading into the first week of the regular season. Theo Pinson, Garrison Mathews, Luke Kornet and Chris Clemons are being waived, sources told The Athletic. Ryan Arcidiacono and Juwan Morgan were waived Friday and will join Pinson, Kornet and Clemons on the Maine Celtics G League affiliate.

Jabari Parker and Bruno Fernando will remain with the team on the final two full roster spots. It appeared likely Parker would stay when he started in the team’s final preseason game Friday and will now have $1.24 million of his $2.28 million salary guaranteed on opening night. The remainder of his salary becomes fully guaranteed on January 10.

President of basketball operations Brad Stevens will continue to search for a player to fill the team’s second two-way slot, which remains vacant after the final camp cuts. Mathews turned down the two-way spot, as he is still holding out hope for a full NBA deal elsewhere, per sources.
