The Boston Celtics will have to pursue a berth in the playoffs without forward Jaylen Brown.
Boston confirmed on Monday that Brown will miss the remainder of the season with a torn scapholunate ligament in his left wrist that will require surgery to repair:
Brown hasn’t played since May 2 because of a right ankle sprain. According to ESPN stats, the 24-year-old is second on the Celtics with 24.7 points per game and was also averaging 6.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.2 steals before he was sidelined.
Boston began Monday evening in seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings, two games behind the Miami Heat in the race for sixth place and the chance to avoid the dreaded play-in tournament. The Celtics face Miami on Tuesday and have four games left on their regular-season schedule.
Boston would take on the Charlotte Hornets if the play-in tournament started today.
