Cavs coming together with defense, returning players, another win over Nets


CLEVELAND — When Andre Drummond saw the defensive schemes coach J.B. Bickerstaff planned to use this season, he had some questions for his head coach.

“I was like, I don’t know if this shit is gonna work,” Drummond said. “But I was like, ‘I believe in you. I trust in everything that you have.’ I mean, he’d been in the NBA for a long time, and you know the game, and you know what it takes to be a good defensive team. And the better we got at it, the more we got confident with our defense and knew that we’re all on one string defensively.”

Bickerstaff has been a defensive-minded coach. During the offseason, he knew the Cavs had to improve in that area. The front office went out and added Isaac Okoro, JaVale McGee and Damyean Dotson, all of whom have defensive presence, to help fill that gap. As training camp and preseason began, Bickerstaff and his coaching staff preached defense.
