Catarina Macario scores 3 minutes into first start for USWNT

Macario’s first USWNT goal

Meg Linehan, women’s soccer writer: While Macario picked up her debut earlier this week on Monday night when she subbed in at the start of the second half, nearly picking up her debut goal then (her best chance was deflected wide), there wasn’t a long wait on Friday.

Rose Lavelle swung the ball out to the right wing to full back Krieger, who then delivered it into Macario — who easily dropped her mark and then finished with power on her right foot to the top corner for her first international goal.

Macario’s fast start and what that means for the USWNT

Linehan: Macario’s nearly already gotten her second goal as this game progresses, with another chance hitting the post. While the opponent for these January friendlies in Colombia is not quite the same test as the SheBelieves Cup will likely be next month, Macario’s done more just ignoring even the concept of first cap jitters this week.

She’s showing her craftiness and that her time in training camps has her adjusting to the international level, and quickly. If she keeps up this level, it’s going to be a very good problem for the USWNT and head coach Vlatko Andonovski to have as they determine the 18-player Olympic roster.
