Carryover Tops $200,000 For Thursday’s Black Gold 5 At Fair Grounds

Horseplayers will get the chance to take a shot at the Black Gold 5 which now carries a pool of $204,799 going into Thursday’s nine race card at Fair Grounds Racecourse. The jackpot is paid out when there is only a single winning ticket.

The sequence kicks off in race 5 with an estimated post time of 2:26 pm (CT).

Race 8 will feature a field of seven going one mile and seventy yards in a $40,000 allowance optional claiming race. Listed as Mike Dilliberto’s morning line 5-2 favorite, Miss Bigly will look to make it back to back wins after impressively taking a $30,000 claiming race last time out on January 31 at Fair Grounds. The Eddie Kenneally trainee was a first level allowance winner by seven open lengths at Churchill Downs in November before running seventh in the $75,000 Pan Zareta Stakes at Fair Grounds in December. Miss Bigly will be ridden by Brian Hernandez Jr., and will break from post 3.

Josie Carroll will send Avie’s Mineshaft to post with Colby Hernandez aboard breaking from the stall seven. Avie’s Mineshaft, who has been seen primarily running against stakes and graded stakes competition as of late, will look to use the drop in class to score her third career win and first win since taking the Wonder Where Stakes in August of 2018 at Woodbine in Canada. She is listed as the 3-1 second choice on the morning line.

Post time for the Thursday card is 12:30 pm (CST).
