The old cliche about London buses has become applicable to Celtic’s transfer window; you wait all summer for a starting XI-ready player, then two arrive in a week.

Following on from Kyogo Furuhashi’s signing on Friday, Swedish centre-back Carl Starfelt now joins for a fee of up to £5 million from Rubin Kazan of the Russian top flight.

Talks had seemingly stalled last week but they were resolved a few days ago and the 26-year-old is now a Celtic player.

Swedish football journalist Frida Fagerlund explained the new boy’s early years to The Athletic: “Starfelt came through the Brommapojkarna (BP) academy, which is the greatest Swedish club in terms of developing young talents.
