By the Numbers: Which Sixer should step up if Joel Embiid is suspended for the Karl-Anthony Towns scuffle?

Wednesday night’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves began as a clash of the undefeated teams, quickly turned into a blowout, devolved into a memorable fracas and briefly became a “Rocky” re-enactment. The fight eventually spilled over into social media at a level of uncharted territory even for the trash-talking Joel Embiid.

Now, we wait for the likely next stage in this early season drama — suspensions.

The case for Karl-Anthony Towns to be suspended is pretty cut and dry, as he responded to Embiid’s shove by throwing a punch. As of last night, Embiid and 76ers coach Brett Brown felt confident that Embiid would avoid a suspension since he didn’t throw a punch. But there’s a lot left for the league to interpret, and the possibility of the Sixers losing their star big man for some games is real.

So what started as a “By the Numbers” column on the Sixers-Timberwolves game will be adapted a tad.
