All that separates a half dozen of the world’s best golfers from achieving Caribbean golf immortality are six days, 100 yards and each other. Introducing the newly minted “Hero Shot,” a skills competition featuring six pros showcasing their best 100-yard wedge game — and with bragging rights on the line.
The competition is hosted by Tiger Woods on Monday of the Hero World Challenge. Woods is trading in his President’s Cup playing captain duties for the week to fulfill his role as playing host at the Hero.
Jordan Spieth, Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, Henrik Stenson and Gary Woodland will join Woods at the Reflections pool at Baha Mar in the Bahamas. The players will compete in a souped-up iteration of Topgolf, playing three head-to-head, single-elimination rounds with the highest point-getter in each matchup advancing until a champion is crowned.
Points are administered based on accuracy, with players hitting shots toward three rings at the center of the pool 100 yards away. Each ring is assigned a different point value, with the outer-most ring earning players 100 points, the middle ring earning 200 points, and the bullseye earning 500.
