Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo reflects on Kobe Bryant’s influence during their 2018 workouts together


The Bucks had just lost badly to the Nuggets and Giannis Antetokounmpo wasn’t happy about it. The loss didn’t change the fact that he would be appearing in his second NBA All-Star Game three days later though, so he fielded multiple questions from the media about being a 2018 All-Star.

He answered each question professionally, but he was still too bothered by the game’s outcome. Three weeks earlier, the Bucks had fired Jason Kidd and installed Kidd’s lead assistant Joe Prunty as head coach. They had won nine of 12 games since the coaching change, but giving up 24 3-pointers in their game against the Nuggets was a strong reminder of the team’s flaws. The loss seemed to leave Antetokounmpo searching for answers.

That all changed when he discussed his plans. Sheepishly, he stated he was attending the same Nike event as Kobe Bryant.

“When I go to that event, I’m going to try to sneak an opportunity to talk to him,”…
