Brewers hope Venezuelan prospects are big hits in the future


Any list ranking the best from the Brewers’ farm system is likely to heavily feature Venezuelan prospects.

There’s outfielder Hedbert Perez, the 17-year-old who signed in 2019 and spent time at the Brewers’ alternate training site last summer. And fast-rising catcher Jeferson Quero, 18, who also signed in 2019. Outfielder Luis Medina, 17, received the biggest bonus from the 2019 signing period. And don’t forget shortstop Eduardo Garcia, 18, who signed a year earlier. 

Those are the more commonly known names, the routine headliners featured on lists of top prospects for the organization. Within the farm system, there are several more prominent prospects from Venezuela. In 2019, 11 of the Brewers’ top 12 signing bonuses went to Venezuelan players.
