Breeders’ Cup Winner British Idiom Gets Back To Work At Fair Grounds

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winner British Idiom had her first work since the World Championships on Sunday at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans, covering three furlongs in :37.60. According to drf.com, the 2-year-old daughter of Flashback will be pointed to the Rachel Alexandra Stakes at the Fair Grounds on February 15, following a similar route as her Kentucky Oaks-winning stablemate, Monomoy Girl.

“The work was really good; it was all we were looking for, just getting her back on the work tab,” trainer Brad Cox told drf.com. “Her weight’s great, coat’s great, she’s moving well, and we have plenty of time to get ready for the Rachel Alexandra.”

Undefeated in three starts, including the G1 Alcibiades and Breeders’ Cup, British Idiom is the top contender for the 2-year-old filly Eclipse Award. Next year, however, her talented stablemate Taraz may pose a major threat in the division. Taraz, by Into Mischief, broke her maiden in style at Churchill Downs with a 7 1/2-length romp, then repeated the effort in the Dec. 21 Letellier Stakes at the Fair Grounds, defeating her nearest rival by 11 1/4 lengths. No definite plans have been laid out for Taraz, Cox said.
