Breeders’ Cup Runner Up Anneau D’Or Will Chase Derby Points In Risen Star

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile runner-up Anneau d’Or will likely make his 3-year-old debut in the Fair Grounds’ G2 Risen Star Stakes on Feb. 15, reports Horse Racing Nation. The son of Medaglia d’Oro has been working toward that end on the synthetic surface at Golden Gate, and the 50 points offered to the winner of the Risen Star could net the colt a spot in the Kentucky Derby starting gate.

“Certainly, the points factor is something that interests us,” trainer Blaine Wright told Horse Racing Nation. “It just came up on our radar. I think the purse money, graded status and chance to go out of town all interested (owner Peter Redekop). It was one of the first races that he chose. At this point we’re just trying to get through a couple more workouts.”

Also the second-place finisher in the G2 Los Alamitos Futurity last year, Anneau d’Or will likely head back West for the G1 Santa Anita Derby following the Risen Star. Overall, the colt has a win and two seconds from three career starts for earnings of $399,000.
