Cole Caufield has not yet packed his bags for Europe. Wheels have been put in motion, however, in an effort to see if the Canadiens prospect can indeed join Swedish club Rögle BK, and the fact no one wants to comment publicly on it is a good indication there is some truth to it. But it is not a done deal.
The are several factors to consider here, the first being — and we can easily discount this one — that we are talking about a 19-year-old considering leaving home and college to go play in Europe. That is not an easy decision. We often ask a lot of these kids, and not everyone would be ready for a move like that at that age, especially without the assurance that doing so brings him one step closer to his ultimate dream of playing in the NHL.
