Brady Tkachuk, Senators agree to 7-year, $57.5 million contract

Brady Tkachuk and the Ottawa Senators agreed to a seven-year contract worth $57.5 million, the team announced Thursday.

Tkachuk was the last restricted free agent left unsigned and sat out all of Ottawa’s training camp as the two sides worked on a deal. But he’s in the fold and may only miss tonight’s season opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The 22-year-old forward was reportedly looking for a shorter-term deal to allow him another chance at a big contract before he becomes an unrestricted free agent in four seasons. The Senators were dug in on a longer-term deal and Tkachuk apparently got what he needed salary-wise, with an $8.214 million AAV, to agree to a deal.
