BRATISLAVA, Slovakia – Brady Tkachuk (St. Louis, Mo./Ottawa Senators) was named captain of the 2024 U.S. Men’s National Team here today. Tkachuk served as captain of the gold medal-winning U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team at the 2017 IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship and is the current captain of the NHL’s Ottawa Senators.
Team USA faces Sweden at Ostravar Arena here tomorrow (May 10) at 8:20 p.m. local/2:20 p.m. ET in its first of seven preliminary round games at the 2024 IIHF Men’s World Championship. All U.S. games will be carried live exclusively by NHL Network.
Additionally, Brock Nelson (Warroad, Minn./New York Islanders), Seth Jones (Frisco, Texas/Chicago Blackhawks), and Zach Werenski (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Columbus Blue Jackets) have been named the team’s alternate captains.
While Tkachuk is playing in his first IIHF Men’s World Championship, Nelson (4; 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017), Jones (3; 2014, 2015, 2022), and Werenski (1; 2019) have a combined eight appearances in the event between them.
“We’ve got a great leadership group, and, in the end, everyone will have to lead in their own way for us to be successful,” said John Hynes, head coach of the 2024 U.S. Men’s National Team. “We’re excited about our team and look forward to starting play in the world championship tomorrow.”
