Bodexpress May Target Pegasus, ‘Still Looking Good’ After Harlan’s Holiday

Bodexpress romps in a Nov. 20 allowance at Gulfstream Park West

While pre-race excitement may have affected Bodexpress’ performance in the G3 Harlan’s Holiday Stakes, connections believe the colt is capable of much better. According to Horse Racing Nation, The Stronach Group has extended Bodexpress an unofficial invitation to compete in the $3 million Pegasus World Cup.

Trainer Gustavo Delgado is inclined to accect, though Bodexpress went too fast early in the Harlan’s Holiday and faded to third. Before the race, jockey Emisael Jaramillo was dislodged while trying to load into the starting gate, and Bodexpress nearly broke through prior to the start.

With better behavior, Delgado believes his star colt can be competitive against the toughest competition.

“What we think is that some day, somehow, everything will go his way and he can get one of the big ones,” Delgado told Horse Racing Nation. “He’s still looking good. He looks like he didn’t even run.”

The son of Bodemeister endeared himself to the public when he ran loose around the track during this year’s G1 Preakness Stakes, and he returned in October to break his maiden at Gulfstream Park West. The colt set a track record in an allowance race there in his next start, and his record after the Harlan’s Holiday stands at two wins from 10 starts and earnings of $264,000.
