NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A Tennessee planning board has approved a plan that will guide future development in Nashville’s historic music row district.
The Tennessean reports the Metro Planning Commission voted unanimously Thursday to pass the Vision Plan, which has caused concern among historic preservationists and business owners.
Preservationists say vital pieces of the music history are being lost to rapid development. Business owners argue that demands by preservationists are so restrictive that they are driving away some music companies.
The Vision Plan attempts compromise by establishing new rules for building throughout the district. It concentrates high-rise development on the northern end and calls for more parks, retail shops and restaurants. The core of Music Row is reserved for smaller music-related office buildings, cafes and music venues.
