In about a 24-hour span, the Blue Jays upgraded their bullpen with a pair of moves, most significantly agreeing to a deal with right-handed reliever Kirby Yates, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.
The Yates deal is pending a physical and the team has yet to confirm it. Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith reported the terms of the deal are expected to be one-year, $5.5 million with incentives, which was confirmed by Rosenthal.
This move follows the addition of right-handed swingman Tyler Chatwood, who reportedly agreed to an incentive-filled $3 million one-year deal on Monday and, per Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi, is expected to work primarily as a reliever.
