Joe Biden has spoken out about the sexual harassment scandal embroiling New York governor Andrew Cuomo for the first time, saying the “investigation is underway and we should see what it brings us”, his appeal for patience following House speaker Nancy Pelosi urging the governor to “look inside his heart” as he considers resignation.

The US’s top infectious diseases expert, Dr Anthony Fauci, has meanwhile called on ex-president Donald Trump to urge his loyal supporters to get a Covid-19 vaccine in response to Republicans expressing negativity towards inoculation in opinion polling.

“I think it would make all the difference in the world,” Dr Fauci told Fox News’s Chris Wallace on Sunday of Mr Trump’s potential intervention. “He’s a widely popular person among Republicans.”

Fauci calls on Trump to encourage Republicans to get vaccinated

The US’s top infectious diseases expert, Dr Anthony Fauci, has called on ex-president Donald Trump to urge his loyal supporters to get a Covid-19 vaccine in response to Republicans expressing negativity towards inoculation in opinion polling.

“I think it would make all the difference in the world,” Dr Fauci told Fox News’s Chris Wallace on Sunday of Mr Trump’s potential intervention. “He’s a widely popular person among Republicans.”

Just 30 per cent of Trump voters said they have been vaccinated or want to get one, compared to 47 per cent who said they would not, a recent NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll found.

Biden speaks out on Cuomo allegations

Joe Biden has spoken out about the sexual harassment scandal embroiling New York governor Andrew Cuomo for the first time, saying the “investigation is underway and we should see what it brings us”, his appeal for patience following House speaker Nancy Pelosi urging the governor to “look inside his heart” as he considers resignation.

Six women have come forward with detailed accusations alleging sexual misconduct by the governor, prompting an investigation by state attorney general Letitia James and an impeachment inquiry by the New York State Assembly.

But Governor Cuomo has denied the allegations and made it clear he has no intention of quitting his position, insisting he would not bow down to “cancel culture”.
