Beyoncé Snubbed for Album of the Year at the Grammys Yet Again

And activist Preston D. Mitchum pointed out that the snub was “infuriatingly racist,” since the vast majority of her wins have been in R&B categories. Even though Beyoncé has never won Album of the Year, Mitchum observed, “artists like Taylor Swift has THREE under her belt.”

Earlier in the evening, with her Best R&B Song win for “Cuff It,” Beyoncé became tied for the most Grammy awards of all time at 31, alongside the orchestral and operatic conductor Georg Solti. Midway through the night, she broke the all-time Grammys record with her win for Best Electronic/Dance Album, making her the most decorated artist by the Recording Academy of all time. In her powerful acceptance speech, she thanked her late uncle Johnny, who was gay and HIV-positive, and the queer community “for your love and for inventing the genre.”

But despite the fact that the singer has been extensively lauded by the Recording Academy, she has somehow still never won Album of the Year any of the four times that she’s been nominated for the honor. Specifically, I Am… Sasha Fierce was nominated in 2010, Beyoncé was nominated in 2015, and Lemonade was nominated in 2017. This was Harry Styles’ first nomination in the Album of the Year category.

After this snub, who can really blame Beyoncé for being late to the ceremony?
