Ben Simmons’ injury: Talking with outside doctors about back pain, recovery


In recent years, the All-Star break has not been kind to the Sixers. Their two All-Stars haven’t returned healthy once the real games resumed.

Last season, after playing in the All-Star Game, Joel Embiid missed eight games with left knee soreness. He returned to play a normal schedule for nearly a few weeks — only to miss more time, on and off, as the regular season wound down. Issues related to the injury hung over Embiid’s entire postseason, even causing him to miss the Game 3 first-round win over the Nets. The 76ers also limited his offseason training.

Now, the normally indestructible Ben Simmons is dealing with back issues. The 23-year-old “suffered nerve impingement in (his) lower back” during Saturday’s game in Milwaukee, and will be re-evaluated in approximately two weeks, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported on Tuesday.
