Beat Ray At Del Mar: Will Kinchen Bring His ‘A’ Game?

Talk about kicking a dog when he’s down.

A week after being humiliated by Little Red Feather’s Billy Koch (who backed winner Bodhicitta at 9-2 in the Yellow Ribbon Handicap while my 6-5 favorite Beau Recall finished off the board), my so-called friends at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in Del Mar, Calif., have lined up a superstar in the handicapping world and a rising television star to school me in the Beat Ray Beach Boss competition on Saturday.

Jonathon Kinchen (@utbighair on Twitter) is very good at what he does. He won the NHC Tour Championship in 2015 and is a regular atop leaderboards at handicapping tournaments around the country. He adds tremendous value to the daily New York Racing Association telecasts on Fox Sports – not just for his handicapping perspective, but his “Cart Talk” interviews with racing personalities like Angel Cordero Jr. and Todd Pletcher have been really enjoyable

On top of all that, Jonathon is a really nice guy. Maybe he’ll feel sorry for me and purposely pick a loser in Saturday’s contest race, the Solana Beach Stakes for California-breds that goes as the ninth race on an 11-race card kicking off at 2 p.m. PT. Or maybe he’s been so focused on Saratoga he won’t bring his “A” game to Del Mar.

That’s probably my only chance to win.

Jonathon will join fellow handicapper Michelle Yu and me on Saturday at 11 a.m. PT on Del Mar’s social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Youtube) to handicap the Solana Beach, whose six-horse field is led by the Tim Yakteen duo of Mucho Unusual and Cordiality. Tune in to hear our handicapping strategies and bets for the contest.

Beat Ray Everyday is an online contest offered every racing day of the Del Mar summer meet. It’s free to play and you can sign up here. Bet a mythical $100 each day on the selected contest race in win, place or show bets on any horse or horses.  At the end of the meet, the player with the highest bankroll from those wagers becomes the “Beach Boss” and wins two VIP tickets to the 2021 Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar. Other prizes are available to top finishers and anyone who finishes ahead of me is entered in a drawing for even more prizes.
