Matt Nagy seemed to be one year behind Sean McVay — in a perfect Bears world.
McVay took over the Rams from a long-time defensive coach (Jeff Fisher), inherited a No. 1 pick at quarterback (Jared Goff) and a great defense with a veteran coordinator (Wade Phillips), and won Coach of the Year when the Rams went 11-5 in 2017.
Nagy took over the Bears from a long-time defensive coach (John Fox), inherited a No. 2 pick at quarterback (Mitch Trubisky) and a great defense with a veteran coordinator (Vic Fangio), and won Coach of the Year when the Bears went 12-4 in 2018.
McVay has Aaron Donald. Nagy has Khalil Mack.
“I got an opportunity in my role right now as a head coach because of guys like Sean,” Nagy said Friday. “I have a lot of respect for him and I think he’s a hell of a coach.”
