Baylor guard, 2021 NCAA Tournament MOP Jared Butler declares for NBA draft

Who steps up in his place at Baylor?

CJ Moore, college basketball staff writer: It’s no surprise that Butler is leaving. This was expected and Baylor has prepared for it. The obvious answer for taking over his spot in the starting lineup is Adam Flagler.

Flagler was reliable scorer off the bench this season, and while he doesn’t have the off-the-dribble abilities of Butler, he’s a knockdown shooter. As for Baylor’s go-to scorer on the perimeter, that’ll likely be either Flagler or Matthew Mayer. Mayer has the game and aggressive mindset to slide right into that role.

What is Jared Butler’s draft stock?

Sam Vecenie, senior NBA writer: Butler is a really interesting prospect due to his ability to knock down shots and play as a real combo guard. He has counter moves off the bounce for days, hits shots off the pull-up and off the catch, and can also drive and create as a passer. Plus, he made the Big 12’s All-Defense team. He’s a bit undersized, but he’ll be in the mix for teams in the 20 to 35 range as long as the pre-draft process goes smoothly.
