Barcelona ‘join Bayern Munich in the battle for Mauricio Pochettino’ after his sacking by Tottenham

  • The Argentine was sacked by Tottenham after a poor start to the season
  • Pochettino has previously said that managing Barcelona would be ‘impossible’

Barcelona have reportedly thrown their hat in the ring as Europe’s top clubs circle around Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentine’s five-year spell at Tottenham came to an end when he was sacked on Tuesday night.

But already Pochettino’s next move is being lined up, and The Sun report that it’s Barcelona who are set to make the biggest approach.

Ernesto Valverde is under pressure at the Nou Camp after an indifferent start to the season.

Bayern Munich are also believed to be in the running as they search for a long-term replacement for Niko Kovac, who departed at the start of the month.

His former No 2, Hansi Flick, has taken interim charge at the Allianz Arena.

The interest from Barcelona is the most intriguing, with Pochettino having previously distanced himself from the Catalan giants due to his ties with Espanyol.

He said in 2018: ‘It’s something that is more than understood.

‘I have a lot of friends in Barcelona, who are from the Blaugrana and to whom I have enormous respect, but my path and that of Barcelona are different, opposite directions, and coaching there would be impossible.’
