Avalanche sweep Predators, advance to second round


The Colorado Avalanche have swept the Nashville Predators to advance to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Colorado defeated Nashville 5-3 in Game 4 on Monday night.

The Avalanche and Predators traded goals in the first and second periods. Filip Forsberg gave the Predators the lead in the third, scoring at the 3:58 mark.

But the Avalanche regained the lead, thanks to goals from Devon Toews and Valeri Nichushkin. Nathan MacKinnon added an empty net goal, sealing the victory for the Avalanche.

Cale Makar got two points (one goal, one assist) in Game 4. Pavel Francouz, who started for the injured Darcy Kuemper (swollen eye), recorded 28 saves in the win.

The Avalanche will play the winner of the Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues series in the second round of the playoffs.
