Atlanta Falcons hire Terry Fontenot as new GM

The Atlanta Falcons have hired Terry Fontenot as their new general manager, the team announced Tuesday.

Fontenot spent 17-plus years with the Saints, starting as a scout and ascending to vice president/assistant general manager of pro personnel. He also previously served as the team’s director of pro scouting.

He interviewed for several other GM openings, including the Jets job last year, and drew interest from the Falcons, Jaguars and Lions during this hiring cycle.

“When we started this process we were focused on finding someone that not only has a track record of identifying key building blocks that result in successful teams, but also someone who focuses on cohesive relationships within the building,” Falcons owner Arthur Blank said in a statement. “We feel very strongly that we’ve found that individual in Terry Fontenot.”
