The Seahawks’ first mandatory minicamp practice began Tuesday afternoon with three veterans not in attendance: safety Jamal Adams, running back Chris Carson and defensive end Aldon Smith.

All three are considered excused absences, coach Pete Carroll said after practice.

Adams is dealing with a “family thing” and Carson is away for the birth of his child. Carroll didn’t provide an explanation for Smith, who in April was arrested and released for alleged second-degree battery in Louisiana.
