As Jonathan Adams Jr. breaks out, Arkansas State takes advantage of spotlight


The greater college football world was introduced to Arkansas State wide receiver Jonathan Adams Jr. on Saturday, but he’s been known around the Red Wolves for a long, long time.

Adams is a hometown player from Jonesboro. His father is Arkansas State’s fourth all-time leading rusher. Head coach Blake Anderson and the staff knew about him early and offered him a scholarship as a sophomore, but he was a two-star recruit who didn’t get many looks from colleges. Now he’s on the verge of getting NFL looks.

Adams caught eight passes for 98 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winner with 38 seconds left to lift Arkansas State to a 35-31 upset win at Kansas State on Saturday — the Red Wolves’ first win against a Power 5 opponent since 2008.
