Arsenal missed out on Jose Mourinho by not sacking Unai Emery – Andy Murray

Andy Murray says Arsenal will be forced into sacking Unai Emery unless there is a swift change to the ‘pretty bad’ atmosphere around the club. Emery is a man under pressure after a poor run of form for the Gunners. Arsenal are eight points off a top-four place after winning just four of their 13 league games.

The Gunners have not won a league game in over a month, Granit Xhaka has been stripped of the captaincy and fans have been vocal in the dissatisfaction with the current situation.

Across town, Tottenham moved swiftly to address their own poor form by sacking Mauricio Pochettino and hiring Mourinho, who had been out of work for nearly a year and it has led to back-to-back wins.

And Murray, an Arsenal fan, revealed his admiration for Mourinho and feels the club may have missed out on appointing the Portuguese coach.

“I actually haven’t been to the ground this season,” Murray told talkSPORT.

“We know what we feel when we do it, we know what we feel when we almost do it but don’t do it, and so I could imagine what it meant for him.

“It’s not just Wimbledon, it’s in London, the city where he lives, with all the meaning for the whole of the UK.

“I could imagine being in his skin, and understand all the feelings that he went through.

“So yes, I was a little more emotional than normal when he won.”
