Arlington Park Delays Opening; Will Not Race In May Because Of Coronavirus

Arlington Park in Arlington Heights, Ill.

Arlington Park in Arlington Heights, Ill., will not open on May 1 as scheduled and an email from track officials to season box holders indicates there will be no live racing throughout the month of May because of the coronavirus, or COVID-19, pandemic.

The email states:

“Taking into consideration the continued public health crisis posed by the coronavirus pandemic and the specific impact the virus has had on Illinois, Arlington has made the difficult decision to cancel all racing dates in May.

“We are in the process of discussing an ideal time to begin racing for the 2020 racing season and will have an announcement later this Spring.  We are also evaluating pricing for our Season Box Holders relative to this change and will let you know when we arrive at those potential adjustments.

“For those of you who have paid in full we ask for your patience, if new pricing options are established partial refunds will be addressed.  You will receive a prorated refund for Mother’s Day. For those of you who have not paid in full we will be holding all reservations until further notice.

“In these uncertain times we would like to thank you for your loyalty and support of Arlington International Racecourse.”

Arlngton does not yet have a purse agreement with the Illinois Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association for the 2020 live meeting.
