In a post on its website titled, “A new home for Pixelmator,” the company announced its plans to join Apple, though the terms and acquisition cost were not disclosed.
“Today we have some important news to share: the Pixelmator Team plans to join Apple. We’ve been inspired by Apple since day one, crafting our products with the same razor-sharp focus on design, ease of use, and performance,” the Pixelmator Team wrote, underscoring the company’s dedication to quality and user experience that parallels Apple’s own values.
Founded 17 years ago by Lithuanian brothers Saulius and Aidas Dailide, Pixelmator has evolved from a small Vilnius-based team into a well-regarded competitor in digital design. Known for its commitment to sleek design, ease of use, and powerful editing tools, Pixelmator has carved out a significant niche within the Apple ecosystem. Now, with Apple’s backing, Pixelmator is set to reach an even broader audience, deepening its impact on the creative community.
“And looking back, it’s crazy what a small group of dedicated people have been able to achieve over the years from all the way in Vilnius, Lithuania. Now, we’ll have the ability to reach an even wider audience and make an even bigger impact on the lives of creative people around the world,” the company added.
The acquisition, which is subject to regulatory approval, won’t bring any immediate changes to Pixelmator’s current lineup of apps—Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator for iOS, and Photomator. The Pixelmator Team assured its loyal user base that their favorite features and ongoing support will continue, with “exciting updates” hinted at for the future.
Pixelmator’s journey has long been inspired by Apple’s own design philosophy, aiming to deliver high-quality tools that cater to users from beginners to professionals. “Looking back, it’s crazy what a small group of dedicated people have been able to achieve over the years from all the way in Vilnius, Lithuania,” the Pixelmator Team shared. Now, with Apple’s resources behind them, they aim to bring even more innovative tools to creators worldwide.
For Apple, this acquisition strengthens its offerings in the creative software space, adding Pixelmator’s sophisticated photo-editing features to its suite of tools. As Pixelmator moves into this new chapter under Apple’s wing, the team expressed gratitude to their users:
“We want to give a big thanks to our amazing users for your support over the past 17 years. Your feedback has played a huge role in shaping our apps into what they are today. As we step into this exciting new chapter, we can’t wait to share what’s next.”
This acquisition underscores Apple’s strategy of expanding its creative toolkit, providing Pixelmator’s loyal users with continuity as well as potential enhancements across the Apple ecosystem. For both companies, the integration promises exciting developments that cater to the ever-growing community of digital creators.
