AP report: NBC will air 2020 U.S. Open after Fox asks out of contract with USGA

The U.S. Open will be on NBC in September, according to a report by Doug Ferguson of the Associated Press.

This after multiple sources told the AP that Fox wanted out of its contract with the USGA.

Fox landed the USGA contract in 2013, and a 12-year deal to televise the U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open started in 2015.

NBC previously had the TV rights deal with the USGA from 1994 to 2013. Prior to that, it was ABC which aired the U.S. Open.

The 2020 U.S. Open is scheduled for Winged Foot in New York Sept. 17-20. The original dates for the tournament was Father’s Day weekend but that was postponed due to the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic.
