When the Lakers fell into an early hole on Wednesday at Utah, no less a figure than LeBron James closely studied video clips on an iPad and attentively listened as the team’s newest coaching assistant broke down what had just happened on the court.
The man with the tablet in his hands? Superstar Anthony Davis, whose injury has contributed to the Lakers midseason slump.
“My job is to do everything on the sideline with the video and try to coach these guys and help them see the things I see,” Davis told The Athletic on Thursday. “And not just hearing it from a coach’s side all the time but from a player who’s out there most nights.”
The Lakers have lost four straight games and are sliding in the Western Conference while Davis rehabs from a strained right calf. Davis, who was promoting a new commercial with Ruffles on Thursday, said he has been rehabbing as he targets a return in March.
