Kroop’s goggles have offered to discount their medical shield face masks to Anita Motion in order to supply Alfred I. duPont Children’s Hospital, which will be taking adult patients from this Friday.
Anita Motion is calling for donations to help send face shields to the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Children’s Hospital in Wilmington, Del. The state of Delaware has had 264 total laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 since March 11, according to coronavirus.delaware.gov.
The hospital will begin accepting adult patients on Friday, April 3, “to help cope with the need for beds to accommodated at the people with complications due to COVID-19,” Motion wrote on the Herringswell Stable website on Tuesday.
Motion’s call for help is as follows:
“We received a message from a friend who is a Respiratory Therapist at Nemours Children’s Hospital asking for help from the horse racing community. Starting this Friday, they will be accepting adult patients to help cope with the need for beds to accommodate all the people with complications due to COVID-19. Amy Vega – a former jockey and exercise rider for us back in the day – will be front and center. She will be the person that operates the ventilator apparatus and intubations.
“Quoting Amy directly, ‘Our managers are drowning trying to keep up with things. We are in desperate need of gowns, masks and surgical hats.’ The other item which we CAN help with is jockey goggles. Amy asked if we could find a source to provide goggles; safety eyewear is essential when performing many procedures, and they have a shortage of these items.
“We have just been contacted by Kroop’s, the manufacturer of jockey goggles and protective eyewear. They have agreed to sell us face shields at a discount which we will in turn donate to Nemours Children’s Hospital. To that end, we have now created a GoFundMe page to raise the necessary funds for this effort. We hope you will consider a donation – of any amount – to help assist the medical community.
