Andy Murray reveals doubts over playing mixed doubles at Wimbledon

The Scot will team up in the men’s doubles with Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert next week and has been looking for a female partner.

But, appearing at a charity event for Tim Henman on Wednesday, he revealed he was now considering concentrating on just the one event because of the potentially hectic schedule.

Wearing white for the first time this summer, the former world No.1 said: “Physically I am fine.

“I am having second thoughts about playing in the mixed doubles because I have spoken to a few people and they say matches can get backed up at the end of the tournament.

“I will need to speak to my team before making a decision.”

Murray made a sensational doubles return last week at Queen’s alongside Feliciano Lopez, winning the competition.

After career-saving hip injury in January, the the 32-year-old is now “injury free” and has the buzz back.

“I’ve enjoyed it, I felt very relaxed at the beginning of the week,” he said.

“I started getting more nervous as the week continued and my competitive instincts were kicking in. My hip felt great, there was no pain.”

American doubles legend Bob Bryan, who underwent the same hip resurfacing operation on his right hip last August, feels Murray should be wary, though.

If there is any back-up in the schedule with rain, weather or darkness, it can be a lot of sets in one day,” he said.

“We have situations where we have played five men’s doubles matches in the space of the second week, mixed in with the mixed doubles matches, and a lot of times it was eight sets in a day.

“It’s too much for me at this age. I don’t feel like doing it. I don’t want to lose any speed on my serve for the men’s doubles.

“I don’t want any fatigue. I don’t do it. Andy is 10 years younger. He would have zero problem doing it.

“But if he wants to shift his focus, I can understand. Especially if he doesn’t get the partner he wants. Why waste your time?”

French Open champion Rafa Nadal looked rusty in his first match on grass this season as he lost 6-3 6-3 to Marin Cilic in an exhibition match at the Aspall Tennis Classic at Hurlingham.

“I will try and be ready for Wimbledon,” said the No.3 seed.
