Andy Murray rolled back the years with an almighty comeback win over Robin Haase in the opening round of the Rotterdam Open on Monday. Murray hadn’t won at Tour level since beating Yoshihito Nishioka in the first round of the US Open last year.
He had lost four consecutive matches after that match, including last week at The Open Sud de France against Egor Gerasimov.
Murray was given a wildcard entry card for the Rotterdam Open, which features the likes of Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
And the former British No 1 was drawn up against Haase, who he last faced at Wimbledon back in 2015.
The Dutch tennis star, now ranked 193 in the world, was always going to be a tough test for Murray and it proved so early in the match.
Murray couldn’t find his rhythm and was visibly getting frustrated with himself after losing back-to-back service games in the first set.
Haase looked fully in control while Murray continued to bark at his own mistakes as he looked to be staring down the barrel of another defeat.
In typical fashion from Murray of yesteryear though, he hung in there in the second set to force a tiebreak and finally got the breakthrough he needed to tie the match.
His hard work in forcing a deciding set though was immediately undone as he lost his serve before going down 3-0.
