Andy Murray knocked out of ATP European Open by Diego Schwartzman

Andy Murray is out of the ATP European Open after losing in straight sets to Diego Schwartzman. The British player started well in Antwerp, breaking early to race into a 4-1 lead – only for the Argentinian to win five games in a row to take the first set. And in a tense second set, it was Schwartzman who came through a tie-break to move into the quarter-finals.

Murray, 34, went in off the back of his marathon match with Frances Tiafoe, but there was no sign of fatigue from the 34-year-old early on, breaking Schwartzman in the fourth game to seize the initiative.

That proved his only break point of the set however, and despite consolidating in his next service game, Schwartzman then came to life.

The 29-year-old wasted a series of break points before eventually taking one en route to getting back to parity at 4-4, and then despite Murray then showing real athleticism to reach one low ball and win a stunning point, Schwartzman broke him a second time before clinically serving out the set to love.

It went on serve early in the second set but at 2-2, the world No 14 again took command by breaking the British player.
