Andy Murray fans all say the same thing after gold post box knocked over by car

Murray was one of over 100 athletes to have their achievements at the London 2012 Olympics marked with a unique gold postbox in their respective hometowns.

Initially put up as a temporary celebration, Royal Mail decided to permanently keep the boxes gold while adding a plaque to commemorate the athletes’ respective achievements.

Murray’s is arguably one of the more popular with sports fans and tourists are regularly seen stopping off in Dunblane to take photos alongside his gold post box.

But one person clearly didn’t stop in time for photos as a silver Mercedes knocked the post box over.

Judy Murray quickly caught wind of what happened, posting on social media: “Oh no” alongside a picture of the damage.

However, some Twitter users playfully said the post box would make a strong recovery, just like Murray has from injury.

One Twitter user joked: “It’ll bounce back, stronger than ever, after its operation”

Another replied: “If Andy can make a comeback the way he did the post box can damn well do the same!!”

A third wrote: “It’s like Andy – it will make a comeback.”

One person even quipped as to who the culprit may have been who knocked the postbox over.

“Just checked, that’s Novak’s number plate.” they joked.

Murray’s career looked like it was over following a tearful press conference at the Australian Open before undergoing a second hip operation in January.

But the surgery was a success and the two-time Wimbledon champion quickly targeted a return to action, which finally came at Queen’s last month where he won the men’s doubles alongside Feliciano Lopez.

A return to singles action was the hope at Wimbledon, but he still gave fans a treat by partnering Serena Williams in the mixed doubles.

And he all-but ruled out making a return to singles at the US Open, meaning fans will have to wait until 2020 to see Murray play the best of five sets at a Grand Slam.
