After Andy Murray made his comeback at Queen’s alongside Feliciano Lopez, where the duo won, there were immediate questions on whether he would soon team up with his brother.
The three-time Grand Slam champion revealed he had spoken with Jamie about the prospect of teaming up at Wimbledon.
But Andy didn’t want to commit too early to playing with his brother in case he had to pull out last minute.
Andy ended up teaming up with Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the men’s doubles, exiting in the second round as well as pairing with Serena Williams in the mixed doubles where they reached the third round.
However, the Murray brothers have now given fans a treat with Citi Open manager Mark Ein confirming they will play together in Washington next week.
“They called us and said Andy really wanted to come back to DC and wanted to play doubles with his brother,” he told BBC Sport.
“We’re putting a real focus on doubles at the event – it’s a terrific piece of the competition and entertainment value for fans so we were thrilled he wanted to return.”
It won’t be the first time the two Murray brothers will partner up, with their most recent competitive match helping Great Britain seal the 2015 Davis Cup.
They also competed together at the 2012 London Olympics, as well as winning the 2011 Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships alongside one another.
Their mother, Judy Murray, was quick to react to the news on social media
“Washington @CitiOpen doubles team…… @ATP_Tour” Judy wrote, alongside a throwback photo of the two tennis brothers from when they were younger.
