Andrey Rublev copies Thiem vaccine decision amid Novak Djokovic Australian Open ban threat

Last week, the Austrian told DerStandard that he has not yet been vaccinated and is waiting for the Novavax jab to be approved, he says: “Because the doctor said it was a good vaccine.”

However, Thiem still plans to get jabbed “with something else” if he cannot receive the Novavax vaccine in time to travel to Australia.

Meanwhile, Djokovic remains all but ruled out of the tournament where he is a nine-time champion.

“I have my opinion and it has always been the same. I will not reveal my status whether I have been vaccinated or not,” he told Serbian newspaper Blic.

Despite saying he did not want to disclose his vaccination status, the world No 1 said his decision not to go was from a “sporting” perspective.

He added: “I’m telling you from the sporting point of view, I don’t know if I’ll go.

“Of course, I want to go, Australia is my most successful Grand Slam, I want to participate, I love this sport, I still have the motivation, but I said why I have this motivation. That’s the whole story.”
